Terms of Service

Welcome to WritOn (operated at writon.cc and through the WritOn Android mobile application). By accessing, registering for, or using our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use WritOn.

1. Eligibility and Account Registration

• Minimum Age: You must be at least 13 years of age (or the minimum legal age required in your country to consent to digital services without parental approval) to create an account or publish content on WritOn.
• Account Security: You are responsible for safeguarding your login credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. Notify us immediately at help@writon.cc if you suspect unauthorized access.
• Accurate Information: You agree to provide accurate information and refrain from impersonating other writers, brands, or entities.

2. Author Ownership and Content Licensing

• You Retain Full Ownership: You retain 100% of your copyright and all intellectual property rights in original stories, poems, essays, articles, and audio/visual works you submit to WritOn. WritOn claims no ownership over your writing.
• License to WritOn: By publishing or submitting content on WritOn, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, cache, format, display, distribute through RSS/search engines, and make your content available to readers across our website, mobile app, and official syndication feeds.
• Duration & Revocation: This license terminates when you delete your story or delete your account, subject to reasonable technical caching, standard database backup cycles (up to 30 days), and third-party syndication indexing beyond our direct control.

3. Community Conduct and Prohibited Activities

WritOn is dedicated to thoughtful literature and creative expression. You agree NOT to:

• Publish Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (CSAE), or predatory material (subject to immediate termination, reporting to NCMEC, and referral to law enforcement).
• Post hate speech, targeted harassment, defamation, doxxing, or threats of violence.
• Infringe upon copyrights, trademarks, or proprietary rights of third parties.
• Deploy automated bots, scrapers, crawlers, or spam scripts to artificially inflate views, applauds, or comments, or to mass-harvest user data without written permission.
• Introduce malicious code, viruses, or attempts to compromise server integrity or Android client stability.

4. Content Moderation, Reporting, and Account Suspension

We believe in transparent, proportional moderation:

• Reporting: Users can flag harmful, plagiarized, or abusive content using the in-app 3-dot overflow menu (⋮ → "Report Content") or by emailing help@writon.cc.
• Remedial Actions: We reserve the right, but do not assume the obligation, to review, hide, restrict, or remove content that violates these Terms, and to temporarily suspend or permanently terminate accounts involved in severe or repeated infractions.
• Appeals: If you believe your content or account was mistakenly restricted, you may submit an appeal to help@writon.cc. We evaluate appeals with human editorial review.

5. Copyright Infringement & DMCA Takedown Policy

We respect copyright law and respond expeditiously to valid notices of alleged infringement. If you believe your copyrighted work has been copied in a way that constitutes infringement, send a formal notification including:

• Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed.
• Identification of the infringing material on WritOn with specific URL or author handle.
• Your contact details (name, physical address, phone number, and email).
• A statement of good-faith belief that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
• A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the notification is accurate and that you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.

Send all copyright notices to: help@writon.cc. We enforce a repeat infringer policy that terminates accounts of users who repeatedly post unauthorized copyrighted works.

6. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

• "As Is" Basis: WritOn is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We disclaim all warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
• Limitation of Liability: To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, WritOn and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses resulting from your access to or inability to use the service.

7. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms shall be resolved primarily through good-faith informal negotiations via help@writon.cc.

8. Changes to These Terms

We may modify these Terms from time to time. When changes are made, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of WritOn following the posting of revised Terms signifies your acceptance of the changes.
