What We Deliberately Leave Out of the WritOn Editor

Every tool you add to a toolbar is an invitation for the mind to wander.

If you open a standard word processor or rich-text CMS editor, you are greeted by three rows of buttons: font dropdowns, text color pickers, highlighter tools, alignment toggles, table builders, and embed widgets.

Before you have written the first sentence of your memoir or technical essay, you have already made four decisions about font size and margins.

This is a subtle form of procrastination masquerading as productivity.

The Restraint of Plain Markdown

In the WritOn editor:

  • Headings are simple: Just type # or ##. The typography system handles optical sizing and line spacing automatically.
  • Emphasis is tactile: *italics* and **bold**. No mouse acrobatics required.
  • No decorative code blocks in literary write-ups: We enforce real technical fidelity. Essays and memoirs convey observations through precise natural language, reserving code blocks strictly for software tutorials.
  • Autosave with offline outbox: Drafts save locally every few keystrokes to an on-device SQLite/Room database. If your laptop battery dies or your internet connection drops, not a single syllable is lost.

The editor gets out of the way so the writer can stay in the sentence.
