Account & Data Deletion

At WritOn, you retain complete ownership of your creative work and personal identity. In compliance with Google Play Developer Policies and global privacy regulations, we provide clear, accessible mechanisms to permanently delete your account, published literature, and personal data.

Method 1: Instant In-App Deletion (Recommended)

You can trigger immediate, permanent deletion of your account directly inside the WritOn Android app without contacting support:

1. Open the WritOn app on your Android device.
2. Tap the Profile tab in the bottom navigation bar.
3. Tap the Settings icon (gear icon in the top right header).
4. Scroll down to the Danger Zone and select "Delete Account".
5. Read the confirmation summary and tap "Permanently Delete My Account".

Upon confirmation, your authentication session is terminated immediately and the deletion workflow executes across our live production systems.

Method 2: Web & Email Deletion Request

If you have uninstalled the app or cannot sign in to your account, you can submit a manual deletion request via email:

What Happens to Your Data: Exact Breakdown

1. Data Deleted Immediately from Active Production Databases

• User Profile & Auth: Your display name, username, email address, bio, avatar, and Firebase Authentication credentials.
• Published Content: All published stories, poems, essays, chapter episodes, and genre tags are permanently dropped from discovery feeds and public URLs.
• Community Engagements: All comments, reply threads, applauds given or received, follower connections, and following subscriptions.
• Library & History: Cloud-saved bookmarks, reading lists, and reading progress indicators.

2. Unpublished Local Drafts (On Your Device)

Story and poem drafts that were created in the editor but never published are stored strictly on your device in a private local SQLite (Room) database. Server deletion does not remotely alter files on your phone. To remove local drafts, simply clear the WritOn app storage via Android Settings → Apps → WritOn → Storage → Clear Data, or uninstall the app.

3. Encrypted Backups and Disaster Recovery (Up to 30 Days)

Routine encrypted database snapshot backups retain archived copies for disaster recovery and system stability. Active database deletion cascades immediately; however, residual records within snapshot backups expire and are permanently purged in accordance with our automated 30-day cyclic backup rotation.

4. Exceptions for Legal Compliance and Abuse Prevention

We may retain minimal technical logs or transaction hashes where strictly necessary to satisfy statutory legal obligations, resolve ongoing legal disputes, or enforce platform bans against severe abuse (such as child sexual exploitation or malicious spam operations).
